Belgian GP: Spa’s Thrilling Key Moments

Oscar Piastri clinched a commanding victory at the Belgian Grand Prix, steering his McLaren to the front amid a race packed with drama at Spa-Francorchamps. The Australian driver capitalized on a flawless start, overtaking pole-sitter Lando Norris early and holding off challenges through variable weather that kept strategies on edge.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, starting from the back after a grid penalty for engine changes, fought his way to fifth but couldn’t bridge the gap to the leaders. His charge raised eyebrows, with team principal Christian Horner facing questions post-race about the car’s pace drop-off in the final stints. Verstappen himself shrugged off concerns, calling it “just one of those days,” but insiders whisper about potential setup tweaks needed before Monza.

Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton, in his debut season with the Scuderia, grabbed second place after a bold one-stop strategy paid off in the drying conditions. Teammate Charles Leclerc finished fourth, sandwiching Norris in third for McLaren’s double podium. Hamilton praised the team’s quick adaptations, noting how pit wall calls turned a tricky qualifying into a strong result.

Further back, Alpine’s rookie sensation Oliver Bearman impressed with a points finish in eighth, holding off Haas veteran Nico Hulkenberg. Mercedes struggled, with George Russell retiring due to mechanical woes and new driver Kimi Antonelli battling to 12th in a learning curve outing.

The race wasn’t without controversy: a first-lap clash between Visa Cash App RB’s Yuki Tsunoda and Williams’ Franco Colapinto triggered a safety car, reshaping the field. Stewards later handed Tsunoda a time penalty, dropping him out of the points.

Piastri’s win narrows the gap to Verstappen in the drivers’ standings to 32 points, igniting the title fight as the season heads into its second half. McLaren now leads the constructors’ by 15 points over Red Bull, setting up a fierce battle in the upcoming rounds.
