Oscar Piastri Granted ‘Unreal’ Accolade for 2026 Aussie GP

Oscar Piastri’s name is set to take its place on the Albert Park skyline, with a dedicated grandstand confirmed for the 2026 Australian Grand Prix.

Melbourne’s homegrown McLaren driver will have the “Oscar Piastri Grandstand” overlooking the start/finish straight and directly opposite the McLaren pit box — about as prime as it gets for fans wanting to follow his every move through practice, qualifying and the lights-out frenzy on Sunday. Organisers are billing it as one of the event’s most sought-after vantage points, and you can see why.

The move echoes a growing trend of driver-backed fan zones and named grandstands, following the now-familiar “Landostand” that Lando Norris packs out at Silverstone. In Australia, Piastri joins an elite list: Jack Brabham, Alan Jones, Mark Webber and Daniel Ricciardo have all had their names on grandstands at Albert Park over the years. For a driver still early in his Formula 1 career, it’s a statement of how quickly he’s connected with the home crowd.

“I’m very excited by the news that I’ll have my own grandstand at next year’s Australian Grand Prix,” Piastri said. “It feels very surreal, and I never thought this would happen but the support is incredible and I can’t wait to see it all come together next March.”

Fans in the stand will be perched across from McLaren’s garage, giving them a front-row seat to every pit stop and pre-race routine. “Seeing all the fans in my own grandstand directly opposite the McLaren garage is going to be an amazing experience,” Piastri added. “The Australian fans always turn out to support me and this is just an extra reason why I can’t wait to race in Melbourne in 2026.”

Mark Webber — Piastri’s manager, and like many of his countrymen, a former Albert Park winner and fan magnet — called it “magnificent news for the event and for Oscar,” adding that it reflects how quickly Piastri has made his presence felt at the elite level, with podiums and victories already on the board.

The 2026 season is set to kick off in Melbourne, meaning the new grandstand will debut on F1’s opening weekend. And depending on how 2025 plays out, there’s a non-zero chance Piastri arrives as Australia’s first reigning World Champion since Alan Jones in 1980 — a tantalising subplot that won’t hurt ticket demand.

Speaking of which: Piastri Grandstand tickets go to pre-sale at 12pm AEST (3am UK) on Wednesday 3 September, with general sale from Wednesday 10 September.

For now, chalk it up as another sign of how firmly Piastri has captured the imagination at home. Next March, Albert Park will sound a little louder when it’s his turn to look up and see his name across the straight.
