Quiz: Name every McLaren F1 race winner — all 22 of them
McLaren’s been busy carving fresh silverware in 2025, but here’s a different kind of challenge: can you rattle off every driver who’s taken a Grand Prix win for the team?
From Bruce to the present day, McLaren’s roll call of race winners spans six decades, multiple eras of dominance, and the occasional left-field surprise. As of the end of 2025, 22 different drivers have stood on the top step for the papaya crew. Your task is simple: name them all in 10 minutes.
Why now? Because the timing feels right. McLaren head into 2026 celebrating 60 years since their first Grand Prix appearance in 1966, and they’ve just wrapped a trophy-laden 2025 campaign. The names on this list helped build the DNA of the team: the founding Kiwi grit, the Brazilian brilliance, the clinical efficiency of the late-80s juggernaut, the Finns who flourished at Woking, the new blood lighting up the hybrid era.
How it works
– You’ve got a 10-minute timer.
– We’re only counting wins taken with McLaren (not career totals).
– You’ll see each driver’s nationality, their McLaren win tally, and the seasons they raced for the team as clues.
– Type in as many names as you can before the clock hits zero.
A couple of era checks to jog the memory:
– The 1970s aren’t just the obvious champions — there’s a cool-headed American in there, and a one-time winner who often gets overlooked.
– The 1980s are a hall of fame on their own.
– The 2000s gave us a mix of raw speed and near-misses, but don’t forget the mid-2000s firepower.
– The modern roster? Yes, recent seasons added to the list — and no, sprint wins don’t count.
If you nail all 22, take a bow. If you get stuck on 19 or 20, you’re in very good company. And if you blank on that mustachioed 1970s answer that everyone forgets, we won’t judge.
Ready? Deep breath. Hit start, and let’s see how fast you can piece together six decades of McLaren winners.
Champions together. 🧡 A season we’ll never forget.

House rules
– Spelling counts. If it’s a tricky surname, take your best shot — close won’t cut it.
– We’re looking for Grand Prix winners only, not non-championship races or sprints.
– One driver on the list scored his first McLaren win long before the hybrid era; another did it after the longest wait imaginable. Think carefully.
Post your score when you’re done and tell us which three names tripped you up. We’ll put the best times up on our socials — bragging rights are part of the game.
Good luck. And remember: once you’ve got the obvious icons out of the way, the quiz really starts.
