F1 Unveils Record Stats Amid $500M Brad Pitt Movie Impact

In a striking financial turnaround, Formula 1 teams have celebrated unprecedented prize money distributions in the second quarter of 2025. Liberty Media’s latest financial reports reveal a $513 million payout to teams, a substantial increase following a sluggish first quarter. This surge is attributed to a robust Q2 performance, significantly boosted by the debut of the Apple-produced F1 movie, which has captivated both seasoned and new fans, marking a milestone for streaming service theatrical releases.

The financial rebound is evident as Liberty Media’s revenue soared to $1.226 billion for Q2, overcoming a challenging start to the year that saw only $403 million in the first quarter. This quarter stands as the second most profitable under Liberty’s stewardship, driven by dynamic on-track battles and a strategic cultural appeal.

Stefano Domenicali, president and CEO of Formula One Management, hailed the season’s exhilarating races and the movie’s contribution to the sport’s expanding digital footprint and social media engagement. This synergy between cultural events and sporting excellence has fostered a vibrant growth trajectory for Formula 1.

Operational income at the Formula 1 level also saw a substantial leap, reaching $293 million compared to last year’s $84 million. While race promotion, broadcasting, and sponsorship remain core revenue streams, the F1 movie’s impact has been pivotal in enhancing media rights and sponsorship revenues, highlighting its role in this financial upturn.

Despite the promising figures, Liberty Media anticipates that the third quarter may not replicate this success due to the seasonal F1 shutdown. Historical data supports this expectation, reflecting traditionally lower figures during this period. Nonetheless, the first half of 2025 has already seen over $627 million distributed in prize money, underscoring a year of exceptional financial performance bolstered by strategic partnerships and cultural integration.

As Formula 1 looks ahead, the renewal of broadcasting rights in the United States next year, potentially with Apple, presents an opportunity to further capitalize on this momentum. Meanwhile, teams continue to benefit from the sliding scale prize distribution, with last year’s Constructors’ Champion, McLaren, receiving the lion’s share of the rewards.
