Leonardo Fornaroli dominated the Formula 2 Sprint Race at Spa-Francorchamps, charging from pole to claim a lights-to-flag victory in tricky wet conditions. The Trident driver built an early gap over Jak Crawford, who started second but couldn’t close the distance as the track dried out.
Rain hit the Ardennes circuit just before the start, forcing teams to scramble with tyre choices. Fornaroli nailed his getaway on wets, pulling clear while Crawford held off a charging Zane Maloney. The Barbadian, starting from row two, briefly threatened but settled into third.
Further back, chaos unfolded. Dennis Hauger spun at La Source on lap one, triggering a safety car. That bunched the field, but Fornaroli stayed composed on the restart, extending his lead to over three seconds by mid-race.
Crawford, pushing hard for DAMS, kept Maloney at bay but couldn’t reel in the leader. The top three finished unchanged, with Fornaroli crossing the line 4.2 seconds ahead.
Championship leader Gabriel Bortoleto struggled from 12th on the grid, fighting up to seventh but losing ground in the title hunt. Isack Hadjar, his closest rival, grabbed fourth to narrow the gap.
This win boosts Fornaroli’s slim title hopes, now sitting fourth overall. With the 2025 F1 grid shaping up—Lewis Hamilton joining Ferrari and rookies like Oliver Bearman at Haas—these F2 results could influence final seats, especially for standout performers like Fornaroli eyeing a step up. Tomorrow’s Feature Race promises more drama as dry weather looms.
