Hamilton: ‘I Want to Stay with George and Kimi’

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has made it clear he plans to retain George Russell and Kimi Antonelli for the 2026 Formula 1 season, dismissing any immediate need for changes despite the team’s ongoing performance challenges.

Speaking ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix, Wolff stressed his commitment to the current duo, who stepped in for 2025 after Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari. “As it stands, yes,” Wolff said when asked about keeping both drivers. “We’re happy with them. Kimi is learning fast, and George has been a rock for us.”

Antonelli, the 19-year-old Italian rookie, joined Mercedes straight from Formula 2, replacing Hamilton. Russell, now in his fourth year with the team, has signed on through 2025, with talks underway for an extension.

Wolff acknowledged the pressure from Red Bull’s dominance and McLaren’s resurgence but pointed to recent upgrades as a sign of progress. “We’ve got the right people in the cars,” he added. “2026 brings new regulations, and stability will help us adapt.”

This stance comes as the driver market heats up, with several seats open for next year. Mercedes sits third in the constructors’ standings, behind Red Bull and McLaren, but Wolff remains focused on building around his young lineup.
