Hungaroring 2025 – F1 Practice 2 Results

As the sun cast its warm glow over the undulating contours of the Hungaroring, a sense of anticipation enveloped the paddock on the second day of the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix weekend. Free Practice 2 unfolded with the usual fervor, yet it was the methodical precision of Lando Norris that captivated the attention of all in attendance. The McLaren driver, exhibiting relentless speed and control, clocked the fastest lap with a time of 1:15.624, reinforcing his prowess on the circuit.

The session commenced with a flurry of activity, as teams scrambled to optimize their setups under the challenging conditions. Medium tires were the preferred choice for many, though the Haas drivers and Gabriel Bortoleto opted for the harder compound, each seeking a strategic edge. The McLarens, with their characteristic agility, quickly asserted dominance, while the Red Bull duo, Max Verstappen and Yuki Tsunoda, struggled with balance issues that left them grappling for control.

Notably, Verstappen’s frustration was palpable, his car likened to “driving on ice” as he battled instability at both ends. Meanwhile, Pierre Gasly faced his own challenges, his Alpine remaining stationary as the team embarked on substantial suspension modifications.

The shift to softer tires marked a pivotal turn in the session, with Carlos Sainz leading the charge in preparing for qualifying runs. Oscar Piastri, however, emerged as the star of the early qualifying simulations, closely followed by his teammate Norris, who soon reclaimed the top spot.

Amidst the strategic maneuvers, a peculiar incident caught the eye of the FIA stewards. Verstappen, in an uncharacteristic move, discarded a white material from his cockpit, raising eyebrows and prompting further investigation.

As the session drew to a close, Norris maintained his lead, with Piastri trailing by a slender margin. Charles Leclerc kept Ferrari in the mix, while Aston Martin’s duo of Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso rounded out the top five with commendable performances.

In a surprising turn, Isack Hadjar emerged as the fastest among the Racing Bulls, securing a respectable eighth place, while Verstappen languished in 14th, a position uncharacteristic for the reigning champion. The complexity of the session underscored the unpredictable nature of Formula 1, where fortunes can shift with the blink of an eye. As the teams prepare for the subsequent challenges of the weekend, all eyes remain on Norris and McLaren, poised to convert their practice success into race-day glory.
