Piastri conquers rain-hit Belgian GP over Norris

Oscar Piastri clinched victory in a rain-hit Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, leading a McLaren one-two finish with teammate Lando Norris in second. The race, delayed by over an hour due to heavy downpours, tested teams’ strategies on a sodden track.

Starting from pole, Piastri held his nerve through the chaos, fending off early pressure from Norris and navigating tricky conditions that saw multiple spins and safety car periods. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc rounded out the podium in third, while Max Verstappen of Red Bull fought back from a midfield start to fourth.

The wet weather forced a standing start after the delay, with intermediates the tire of choice. Piastri built a gap before the first pit stops, but Norris closed in late on, only for a lock-up to cost him a shot at the win. McLaren’s double podium strengthens their constructors’ lead, now 42 points ahead of Red Bull.

Further back, Lewis Hamilton in the second Ferrari took fifth, ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell in sixth. Alpine’s Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon finished seventh and eighth, with Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll completing the top ten.

Piastri’s second win of the season narrows the drivers’ standings gap to Norris, who leads by 32 points with nine races left. The result ramps up pressure on Red Bull, as Verstappen’s title defense slips further. Next up: the Italian Grand Prix at Monza in two weeks.
