Aston Martin has finally rolled the dice on its lo

Aston Martin has finally rolled the dice on its long-awaited AMR26 “B-spec”, debuting in the Budapest pit lane as a clear attempt at a mid-season reset rather than another small tweak. The target isn’t the front yet; it’s Cadillac, which has edged ahead as development has ramped up. Even Valtteri Bottas admitted he’s heard rumours about the scale of the changes, saying he’s “curious” and “scared” to see what turns up on track.

This is only stage one: Honda’s upgraded engine package is planned for a post-race Hungaroring run, with Aston Martin seemingly trying to separate chassis gains from power gains. Ferrari also arrives with an “extreme” high-downforce rear wing for a circuit that rewards commitment, while the FIA has confirmed fewer straight-mode zones than Belgium, subtly reshaping wing choices and race tactics.

Oscar Piastri didn’t want a Spa penalty for Charle

Oscar Piastri didn’t want a Spa penalty for Charles Leclerc — he wanted a clearer line on what “enough space” really means. After their Les Combes contact left Piastri with floor damage, his point was simple: if drivers can squeeze to the absolute minimum every time with no consequence, F1 quietly encourages brinkmanship. A black-and-white flag, he argued, could warn without over-policing.

Now in Budapest, that debate is on the FIA’s agenda alongside the separate controversy of Lewis Hamilton’s five-second penalty after his clash with George Russell. Leclerc has met Piastri halfway, admitting he was “maybe a bit too far” and that pushing limits can become needlessly risky. At the Hungaroring — narrow, downforce-sensitive, and unforgiving — a consistent standard won’t just settle arguments, it could shape how many overtakes drivers even dare to try.

Cadillac’s first big driver puzzle is taking shape

Cadillac’s first big driver puzzle is taking shape behind its 2026 “safe hands” line-up of Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas. Colton Herta returns to the car for FP1 in Hungary (in Bottas’ seat) as part of a planned run of practice outings, but the longer-term plan is being tested by the one thing Cadillac can’t control: Super Licence points.

Herta’s move into F2 was meant to close the gap, yet he arrives in Budapest 16th in the standings and the points maths is starting to look tight. At the same time, Ugo Ugochukwu’s stock is rising fast — he heads to Hungary leading the F3 title fight by a single point — while publicly keeping the Cadillac talk at arm’s length and stressing the conventional next step of F2. Cadillac’s succession story is suddenly less tidy: keep Herta visible and developing, and watch Ugochukwu turn momentum into leverage.

Aston Martin arrives in Budapest with urgency and

Aston Martin arrives in Budapest with urgency and a clear line in the sand: the B-spec AMR26 chassis is set to debut this weekend, with both Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll expected to run the full updated package from FP1. After the bruising reality checks at Silverstone and especially Spa, Hungary is being treated as the cleaner test the team needs — less power-sensitive, more revealing on low-speed balance, platform behaviour and aero consistency.

This is also only phase one of the reset. Honda’s upgraded power unit won’t race here, but it’s now due for its first on-track running at a Hungaroring filming day next week, bringing the timeline forward where it matters most: track time and correlation. Aston Martin doesn’t need a miracle in Budapest. It needs a coherent step that proves the overhaul is pointing in the right direction ahead of what could be a pivotal post-break run.

Ferrari has rolled into the Hungarian GP with its

Ferrari has rolled into the Hungarian GP with its most aggressive take yet on the rotating “Macarena” rear wing: a stacked, three-element add-on aimed squarely at a circuit where downforce, rear stability and traction decide your weekend. After turning up to Monaco without the kind of bespoke high-downforce solutions rivals had, this looks like Ferrari acknowledging it can’t keep leaving track-specific performance on the table.

Budapest also becomes a live comparison test. Ferrari’s concept has shaped the 2026 aero conversation enough that Red Bull and McLaren have pursued their own versions, but copying hasn’t been clean—Red Bull’s earlier issues forced a rollback, and McLaren’s planned trial was delayed by a snag. If Ferrari’s new assembly delivers, it’s progress and responsiveness. If not, the season’s headline innovation starts to look more like a high-wire act than a shortcut to speed.

Aston Martin’s long-awaited AMR26 B-Spec has final

Aston Martin’s long-awaited AMR26 B-Spec has finally appeared in the Hungaroring paddock, and it’s already the car everyone is trying not to stare at. Valtteri Bottas says the loudest rumour is that it shares “only the front suspension” with the original spec — hinting this isn’t a normal upgrade, but a near-total reset under Adrian Newey after Aston banked on one big mid-season swing.

For Cadillac, that’s the uncomfortable timing. Bottas admits he’s “a little bit scared” that a genuine Aston leap could shove them back in the pack, even as Cadillac’s steady updates have consistently worked. With big gains unlikely from here and focus soon shifting to next year, Cadillac’s Hungary priority is more basic: new brake cooling to avoid repeats of the fires seen in Monaco and Austria, and simply making it to the finish while the paddock waits to see if Aston’s gamble is real.

The FIA has settled on four straight‑mode zones fo

The FIA has settled on four straight‑mode zones for this weekend’s Hungarian GP, a clear step back from Spa’s five-zone experiment as F1 continues to fine-tune 2026’s active‑aero era. Two zones land where overtaking needs them most at the Hungaroring (start/finish and the Turn 1–2 run), with two more nuanced additions on the climb to Turn 4 and between Turns 11 and 12 to encourage committed, well-positioned attacks rather than easy drive-bys. Overtake-mode detection will be at the final-corner entry with activation on exit, rewarding anyone brave enough to stay close through the turbulence.

The timing matters: Hungary is the last race before the summer break, and active aero is now as much about reliability as racecraft. Red Bull arrives still managing the fallout of rear-wing issues linked to Verstappen’s recent crashes, with the question now whether it trusts its updated ‘Macarena’ wing at a track that exposes any instability fast. If four zones can produce real racing here without making it feel engineered, it’s a win for the FIA’s circuit-by-circuit approach. If not, the break will be loud.

Aston Martin has unveiled a heavily reworked AMR26

Aston Martin has unveiled a heavily reworked AMR26 in Budapest, effectively rolling out a B-spec aimed at resetting a season that’s yielded just one point so far. Unlike the drip-feed update approach elsewhere, this is the first stage of a bigger two-step push, with Honda power unit gains due at Zandvoort next month.

This weekend’s package is about more than fresh aero: Aston has targeted a major weight reduction through the chassis and gearbox architecture, alongside a new nose, revised rear suspension and “substantially revised” aerodynamic surfaces. Adrian Newey says the core structures aren’t fundamentally changed, but the weight drop required re-homologation and crash testing — a sign this was planned as a true baseline shift. The caveat is correlation: Aston is still rebuilding trust in its simulation tools, making Hungary a crucial real-world reference to see whether the car is now faster more often, not just on a perfect lap.

George Russell left Spa with nothing to show for i

George Russell left Spa with nothing to show for it after a Lap 1 clash with Lewis Hamilton at La Source sent him into the gravel. Both called it a racing incident, though Hamilton still received a five-second penalty. Russell’s bigger frustration was what led to the situation: a sudden energy deployment and power unit issue he said left him effectively defenceless up Eau Rouge, “quite frankly, dangerous”, before he was swamped and contact followed.

Toto Wolff didn’t dismiss Russell’s “numb” reaction, but he did reframe it as a two-sided reality: Mercedes shares responsibility for the failure, yet driving for the team comes with expectations on composure too. The fallout is immediate in the standings as well, with Ferrari scoring big to cut Mercedes’ constructors’ cushion, while Russell now trails team-mate Kimi Antonelli by 50 points. With Hungary next and the summer break looming, Mercedes needs answers on the hardware and a reset in mindset.

Red Bull isn’t panicking about Max Verstappen’s fu

Red Bull isn’t panicking about Max Verstappen’s future, but they’re not pretending the noise doesn’t exist either. At Spa, Laurent Mekies effectively acknowledged what the paddock already knows: rival teams are calling Verstappen, and Red Bull is also hearing from other “good drivers” as the market starts to move.

The rumour won’t die because there’s a mechanism, not just gossip. Verstappen is signed to 2028, yet a performance-related exit clause is believed to be in play if he’s outside the top two in the standings after Hungary. Verstappen isn’t offering the clean “I’m staying” shutdown, and Red Bull’s pitch is brutally simple: build a faster car. The difference now is the second seat looks stable, with Isack Hadjar’s run of top-six finishes giving Red Bull a credible pairing again — something that could matter as much as outright pace in keeping a dynasty intact.

Newly leaked, untelevised Ferrari radio from Spa s

Newly leaked, untelevised Ferrari radio from Spa shows Lewis Hamilton convinced he’d been left “nowhere to go” in the opening-lap clash with George Russell at Les Combes, describing an “impossible position” after losing front-end grip in traffic. On the pit wall, Carlo Santi kept it calm, focused on checks and safety-car mode — and Ferrari chose not to tell Hamilton about the five-second penalty straight away.

The news finally landed mid-race as they opened a gap to serve it, triggering a dry “Ah, another one…” after his recent Silverstone penalty. Russell called Spa a racing incident and said Hamilton “didn’t do anything reckless,” as drivers and the FIA are set to revisit the consistency of penalty calls ahead of Hungary — with Leclerc/Piastri also on the agenda. Ferrari’s debrief was upbeat but blunt: P4, and “an easy podium” without the penalty; Hamilton owned the messy weekend, but not that corner.

Liam Lawson left Spa without points, but Racing Bu

Liam Lawson left Spa without points, but Racing Bulls left with another reminder that its driver pairing is turning volatile. The stewards noted the Lawson–Arvid Lindblad flashpoint and took no further action, yet the untelevised angles and radio told a clearer story: two teammates repeatedly refusing to yield at Les Combes, with Lawson twice taking the avoidance route after being squeezed wide — and a pit wall that still looks a step behind the situation.

Lawson’s five-race points streak ended with P12 while Lindblad took P9, a swing that matters as Racing Bulls draws level with Alpine in the fight for fifth. Add in the earlier team-orders tension and Lawson’s late-race frustration over mistimed boost calls, and Spa felt less like healthy competition and more like a growing internal distraction at the worst possible moment.

Nikola Tsolov’s F2 season is starting to look very

Nikola Tsolov’s F2 season is starting to look very Red Bull: win early, win often, and turn “promising” into “next in line”. The 19-year-old Bulgarian hit Spa with six wins already, a Silverstone sprint/feature double, and a 27-point lead at the halfway mark, driving like someone who’s stopped auditioning and started setting the pace.

Racing Bulls boss Alan Permane didn’t exactly play it down either, calling Tsolov “next in line” while insisting the team isn’t thinking about him “at the moment” — classic Red Bull pressure without a timeline. The main hurdle is Super Licence points, but a top-five in F2 would likely clear it, and the bigger complication may be internal: Liam Lawson has found form again, Arvid Lindblad has settled fast, and Racing Bulls is built to create exactly this kind of selection headache.

Cadillac is handing Colton Herta another slice of

Cadillac is handing Colton Herta another slice of Formula 1 mileage at the Hungarian GP, with the American stepping into Valtteri Bottas’ car for FP1 in Budapest. It’s the team’s second rookie-running outing of 2026, but it’s being treated as more than a compliance exercise: the Hungaroring is the kind of controlled, high-load testbed a new operation can actually learn from.

Herta’s first FP1 run in Barcelona ended last on the timing screens, nearly two seconds off Bottas, and that gap is exactly why Cadillac wants more data. Still pointless at midseason, the team is chasing a steeper development curve, with reliability and mileage front and centre. New brake drums are on the checklist after issues in Austria, and Bottas is optimistic the MAC-26 will suit Hungary better than Spa as Cadillac looks to head into the break with momentum.

Hungary’s “pressure cooker” weekend is more than a

The Hungaroring is already a high-commitment grind

The Hungaroring is already a high-commitment grind where track position rules and clean air is hard to find. Add rising temperatures and a steady dry forecast, and this weekend is shaping up as a tyre management test with no rain “reset” in the key sessions.

Friday should be workable at around 22–25°C, but Saturday ramps up fast: FP3 near 25°C and qualifying pushing toward 29°C, tightening the window for prep laps and making it easy to overheat the tyres before the final sector. Sunday looks like the real punishment, with race temperatures around 31°C and no wet weather expected until later in the evening. If this plays out, Hungary won’t be decided by desperation moves—it’ll be won by patience, precision, and whoever keeps the tyres alive one lap longer than everyone else.

Campos Racing’s Spa Sunday has turned into one of

Campos Racing’s Spa Sunday has turned into one of the season’s strangest post-race rulings in Formula 2. Noel Leon has been disqualified from the Belgian feature race (after initially finishing P7) following an FIA investigation into a red-flag period where a “Non-Operational Personnel” guest was seen using a radio headset fitted with a microphone — equipment that regulations restrict to listen-only for guests.

Campos said it was an inadvertent mix-up, but the stewards stressed the team is responsible, especially after the guest was explicitly told the mic-equipped headset wasn’t permitted and then continued to use it. The penalty package is heavy: Leon DSQ, a €20,000 fine, plus a suspended 25-point championship deduction for Campos if a similar breach happens within 12 months. Nikola Tsolov keeps his Spa results, with the FIA ruling the guest was linked exclusively to Leon’s side of the garage — leaving Tsolov atop the standings heading to Hungary.

Max Verstappen left Spa with P3 and his third podi

Max Verstappen left Spa with P3 and his third podium of 2026, but the unseen radio told a harsher story: a Red Bull quick enough to fight, yet inconsistent enough to drain his patience. From the opening lap he flagged “completely wrong” energy deployment, then questioned battery charging on restarts, complained of “horrendous” clipping, lag and “awful” shifts, and later a familiar tyre problem he compared to Silverstone.

The flashpoint came when a suggestion to save energy drew a sharp “no race understanding” before Verstappen immediately walked it back: “Don’t take that personal.” In the end he still dragged it onto the rostrum, called it “a nice podium,” and team boss Laurent Mekies thanked him for “bearing with us” while promising more performance to come. Professionalism under strain, with third place treated as damage limitation.

Spa exposed a raw nerve at Mercedes. Toto Wolff sn

Spa exposed a raw nerve at Mercedes. Toto Wolff snapped back on live TV when pressed about George Russell’s struggles, insisting on “100 per cent support” as the team tries to stop the narrative turning into a simple driver-blame story.

From third on the grid, Russell looked powerless on the run to Kemmel, angry on the radio as the car ran out of battery, and Mercedes now admits there were “deployment differences” versus Kimi Antonelli’s car. Russell changed his driving and the issue stayed, before contact with Lewis Hamilton at Les Combes ended his race in the gravel. Wolff called it a racing incident, framed Russell’s wider slump as 50/50, but pinned Spa itself on the team’s side — while Antonelli won again and opened a 50-point gap. Mercedes heads to Hungary needing one thing fast: Russell’s car deploying like his team-mate’s, before this becomes more than a bad weekend.

Alpine will tick off another part of its 2026 rook

Alpine will tick off another part of its 2026 rookie requirement in Budapest by handing Paul Aron Franco Colapinto’s car for FP1 at the Hungarian GP. It’s Aron’s third Friday run of the season, a notable call at a tight, low-speed circuit where giving up an hour of normal prep can sting, but it keeps Alpine on track with the rule that demands four rookie FP1 outings across the year.

For Aron, it’s another visible step after recent stand-in sessions with Audi, and a chance to add more relevant mileage with his “parent” team. For Colapinto, it’s a brief interruption rather than a setback as his 2026 campaign settles into something more consistent: he arrives 12th in the standings with points in six of the first 10 rounds, fresh from P10 at Spa ahead of Pierre Gasly. Elsewhere, McLaren and Haas are also rotating FP1 seats in Hungary as teams manage the same rookie-run balancing act.
