Alessandro Alunni Bravi stepped into the F1 limelight this year, but not in the conventional way. With a background as a lawyer — he revealed in Austin that “I became a lawyer to be able to fight against the mafia in Italy” — his transition from legalese to driver management to the pitwall has been as swift as it’s been impactful and confusing.
However, Bravi’s current weird title, ‘team representative’ for Sauber/Alfa Romeo, might seem somewhat enigmatic to many. In a sport where titles often resonate with power and decision-making, Bravi’s role appears more symbolic. That’s because the real strings of Sauber are being pulled by Andreas Seidl, who’s much more often tucked away at Hinwil HQ, engrossed in the future of Audi’s F1 ambitions.
Amid this unique dynamic, the F1 rumor mill — as relentless as ever — has been churning out whispers. They hinted at Audi, the German, VW-aligned automotive titan, re-evaluating its collaboration with Sauber. Some even ventured to suggest that perhaps Porsche might be primed to step in and pick up the pieces.
Yet, Bravi, the lawyer-turned-F1-strategist, was quick to steer the narrative back on track. Responding to the speculations, he confidently asserted to the Belgian broadcaster RTBF, “The Audi project is extremely exciting.” He painted the alliance’s ambition, stating, “There is a lot of work to be done, but everything is well aligned. It is a solid and important project. It is the most exciting project in the last ten years in Formula 1.”
Let’s see if the rumours run out of fuel or if there’s more to it. Because, in F1, there usually is.
