Abu Dhabi going ahead despite regional tensions

Formula 1 officials have made clear that the 2023 season’s coming crescendo in Abu Dhabi will not be overshadowed by the regional conflict.

As the sport’s travelling entourage descended upon Sao Paulo on Thursday, paddock murmours hinted at a probable halt to the finale in Abu Dhabi due to the current situation in Israel-Palestine.

French correspondent Jeremy Satis of Auto Hebdo traced the origins of the paddock rumors to the British Foreign Office’s updated advisories concerning travel to the United Arab Emirates. Stark warnings of an increased likelihood of terrorist attacks, with mentions of Hamas citing “western interests” in the Gulf as targets, come amid simmering tensions across the region.

But F1 is resolute: the race goes on. “Formula 1 denied the rumours of cancellation on Thursday, stating that the Abu Dhabi GP will take place on November 26 as planned,” reports Satis.

In recent years, the Formula 1 leadership has navigated through similar challenges, maintaining the course for events in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia despite analogous advisories from the UK. The officials, well-versed in the complexities of global events, have reportedly shared insights regarding the latest declarations with team bosses to assuage concerns this time around.

Meanwhile, the custodians of the Yas Marina circuit have echoed this commitment: “We can confirm that Abu Dhabi GP 2023 will take place as planned,” said the organisers, signaling an unwavering resolve.
