F1’s 2024 prep heats up: Tests, triumphs & transitions

The Formula 1 paddock is abuzz with preparations for the upcoming 2024 season, marked by a series of significant developments across various teams. Alpine is set to unveil its new car shortly, but concerns are mounting as the team’s 2024 car reportedly failed its crucial side-impact crash test, adding pressure to the Renault-affiliated outfit.

In contrast, the team formerly known as Alpha Tauri, now rebranded as Visa Cash App RB, is experiencing a positive shake-up. The team welcomes renowned engineer Alan Permane from Renault as its new racing director. “After a few months of downtime, it’s great to return to racing again,” Permane expressed. This key appointment is bolstered by Tim Goss, the FIA’s former technical director, and Guillaume Cattelani from Red Bull Technology, adding substantial expertise to the team’s ranks.

Meanwhile, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton is reuniting with his former close associate Marc Hynes, who had left Hamilton’s team in 2021. This reunion signals a strengthening of Hamilton’s support system as he embarks on another championship bid.

Despite not having official entry yet, Andretti-Cadillac is forging ahead with its Formula 1 project. The Independent reveals that the team, aiming for a 2025 or 2026 debut, already boasts a 120-strong workforce, including talents from Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes, and McLaren. Technical director Nick Chester’s remarks underscore the seriousness of Andretti-Cadillac’s F1 ambitions.

Finally, Charles Leclerc’s brother, Arthur Leclerc, who was recently dropped from Ferrari’s development academy, has secured a new role in the team’s F1 simulator. This week, he experienced his first drive in a Ferrari F1 car during Pirelli’s testing in Barcelona. “It was an incredible experience,” Arthur shared. “The car is so fast and nothing like I’ve experienced before.”
