Formula 1 is under fire as Spanish racing driver Oriol Servia slams the decision to reject Andretti-Cadillac’s FIA-approved bid to join the sport. But that’s not all – the controversy deepens as Andretti claims an invitation for a crucial meeting with Formula One Management went unnoticed, ending up in their email spam folder.
In a bold response, Andretti stated, “An in-person meeting to discuss commercial matters would be and remains of paramount importance to Andretti-Cadillac.” They are eager to sit down with Formula One Management to address their interest.
Formula 1 had also questioned Andretti’s understanding of the sport, doubting the feasibility of debuting in 2025 while simultaneously developing a radically different car for the 2026 rule changes.
Andretti fired back, revealing, “(We have) been operating with 2026 as the year of entry for many months now. The technicality of 2025 still being part of the application is a result of the length of this process.”
Servia, a former Indycar star, didn’t mince words, calling Formula 1’s arguments “pathetic and insulting.” He praised Andretti’s competence and their storied legacy in motorsports, sarcastically highlighting the achievements of Mario and Michael Andretti, saying, “I think they’ve won a few things in every championship they’ve ever participated in.”
Taking a swipe at Formula One Management, Servia remarked, “I especially didn’t like when FOM said the new team would bring more to Michael Andretti himself than to Formula 1. Since when is this a game of who benefits more?”
In Servia’s view, Formula 1’s leadership should prioritize the sport’s overall benefit and focus on creating a captivating spectacle for the fans. The controversy surrounding Andretti-Cadillac’s rejection continues to simmer, leaving many questioning the decision-making process.
