Mick Schumacher, the 25-year-old progeny of racing legend Michael Schumacher, is tipped as a front-runner to join Indycar in 2025. He’s currently balancing his ambitions to return to Formula 1 with his engagements in the world endurance championship for Alpine and his reserve driver commitments at Mercedes.
Prema Racing, renowned in motorsport for their pace-setting junior teams including Formula 2 and Formula 3, has recently revealed plans to expand into Indycar in the upcoming year with a robust two-car team. At present, Prema’s F2 lineup boasts the talents of Oliver Bearman and Kimi Antonelli. Schumacher, a former champion for Prema in both F2 and F3, could possibly make his way back to the team as it ventures into the American racing scene.
“When Prema joins a championship, it is not to make up the numbers,” declared Rene Rosin, the team boss.
French motorsport publication Auto Hebdo has reported that Prema intends to pair an established Indycar racer with a newcomer from the European circuits for their 2025 lineup. Schumacher fits the profile perfectly as a likely candidate.
“He has never hidden his ambition to return to single seaters,” according to journalist Gonzalo Forbes. “The German could unite with the Rosin clan again for a possible return to service in Indycar in 2025.”
