FIA Confirms Belgian DQ: Red Bull Driver Reacts

Red Bull junior driver Arvid Lindblad has spoken out after the FIA disqualified him from his Formula 2 feature race victory at the Belgian Grand Prix.

The 17-year-old British racer crossed the line first at Spa-Francorchamps, but post-race checks revealed his Prema car was 1.1kg under the minimum weight limit. This followed the earlier disqualification of initial winner Alex Dunne, a McLaren junior, for a separate technical infringement involving his clutch.

In a brief statement on social media, Lindblad expressed his frustration but accepted the ruling. “Gutted to lose the win like this,” he wrote. “We showed strong pace all weekend and I drove a solid race, but rules are rules. Thanks to the team for their hard work – we’ll bounce back stronger in Monza.”

The penalty hands the win to Richard Verschoor of Trident, with Lindblad now classified last among the finishers. This marks a tough blow for the Red Bull-backed talent, who had been eyeing a step up in his career amid the team’s evolving junior programme.

FIA officials confirmed the breach stemmed from a procedural error during the race, with no appeal lodged by Prema. Lindblad, in his debut F2 season, sits seventh in the standings after the Spa round.
