Brundle Demands FIA Action on Wet Race Fears

Martin Brundle has called on the FIA to tackle Formula 1’s ongoing struggles with wet weather racing, urging the governing body to find solutions without relying on outside help.

The Sky Sports commentator and former driver voiced his frustration after heavy rain disrupted the Belgian Grand Prix weekend, where standing water forced delays and safety car starts. Brundle argued that the sport’s engineers and officials should resolve these visibility and aquaplaning problems internally, rather than turning to external experts.

“It’s time for the FIA to step up and sort this out themselves,” Brundle said during his post-race analysis. He pointed to recent tests of wheel covers designed to reduce spray, but noted their limited success in extreme conditions like those at Spa-Francorchamps.

This year’s championship has seen similar issues at tracks like Suzuka and Silverstone, where rain led to shortened sessions and driver complaints about poor visibility. With Lewis Hamilton now at Ferrari alongside Charles Leclerc, and Max Verstappen chasing a fifth title with Red Bull, teams are pushing for changes ahead of the 2026 regulations.

Brundle stressed that F1 cannot afford to keep cancelling or delaying races due to weather, especially as the calendar expands. “We’ve got the talent inside the paddock to fix this – let’s use it,” he added.

The FIA has acknowledged the concerns and plans further wet tyre testing later in 2025, but drivers like Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have echoed Brundle’s demand for quicker action to ensure safe, competitive racing in all conditions.
