Max Verstappen has put an end to the swirling speculation about a potential switch to Mercedes, confirming his commitment to Red Bull for the 2026 season and beyond.

Speaking ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix, the Dutch driver addressed the persistent chatter that had linked him to Toto Wolff’s team amid reported frustrations at Red Bull. “I’ve got a long deal here, and I’m happy where I am,” Verstappen said. “The focus is on winning more races this year and preparing for the new regulations next season.”

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko echoed those sentiments, dismissing any notion of an exit clause being triggered. “Max is staying put,” Marko told reporters. “We’ve built something strong together, and that’s not changing.”

The rumors gained traction earlier this month after Verstappen’s position in the drivers’ standings slipped during a tough run of results, fueling talk of a performance-related escape hatch in his contract. Sources close to the team, however, indicate that no such clause was activated by the summer break deadline.

Mercedes, meanwhile, appears set to retain George Russell alongside their rising star Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who steps up from Formula 2 to replace the departing Lewis Hamilton. Wolff had openly courted Verstappen, but with the door now closed, the Silver Arrows are focusing on their current lineup.

For Red Bull, keeping Verstappen is a boost as they navigate the engine partnership with Ford and aim to defend their constructors’ title against a resurgent McLaren and Ferrari. The 2025 season has seen Verstappen claim seven wins so far, but closer competition from Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri has tightened the championship fight.
