1. Two more names on the stewards’ list
Lindblad and Bortoleto each picked up a ten-place grid penalty at Interlagos. Racing Bulls went over its allocation with an engine and turbo, while Audi did it with an energy store and control electronics. The stewards counted each component separately, at five places apiece.
2. George couldn’t see Turn 4
George described aquaplaning in fifth gear at over 200 km/h on the run to Turn 4, with the spray hiding the braking zone. His warning after qualifying was blunt: in a race, running in those conditions would carry a serious risk of a crash.
3. Lewis joins Fernando in the 400 club
Interlagos is set to be start number 400 for Lewis, a mark only Fernando has passed. Kimi called it inspiring that Lewis is still fighting at the front at 41. For Lewis, Mexico pole made the point more neatly than the milestone itself: he still has the pace.
4. Lewis and Max reckon the old comeback script won’t work
Lewis and Max have both won from well back at Interlagos, but neither expects passing to come as easily this time. Lewis pointed to how DRS used to give the chasing car an edge. Max reckons battery drain on the long straight will shrink the speed difference too.
5. Max still backs himself
Asked if he still considers himself the best driver on the grid, Max didn’t hesitate. He reckons he’s driven well this season and sees Red Bull’s recent wins as part of the same picture: once the car improved, he had the machinery to turn those performances into victories.
