Ferrari Secures Vasseur with Major Contract Extension

Ferrari has locked in team principal Fred Vasseur with a fresh multi-year deal, a move that signals strong faith from the Maranello board despite the team’s rocky start to the 2025 Formula 1 campaign.

Vasseur, who stepped into the role at the end of 2022 after a stint at Sauber, has steered Ferrari through ups and downs. Last year, they came agonizingly close to the constructors’ crown, trailing McLaren by just 14 points. But 2025 has been tougher, with no wins on the board yet and the squad sitting second in the standings, fending off pressure from Red Bull and Mercedes.

The extension ends weeks of whispers about Vasseur’s position, especially as Lewis Hamilton’s arrival from Mercedes hasn’t sparked the instant turnaround many expected. Hamilton, now paired with Charles Leclerc, is still finding his feet in red, while upgrades to the SF-25 car have delivered mixed results amid fierce midfield battles.

In a statement released ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Ferrari chairman John Elkann praised Vasseur’s vision, saying it aligns with the team’s push towards 2026’s new regulations. “Fred’s leadership has rebuilt our foundations,” Elkann noted. “This commitment ensures we stay focused on fighting back.”

Vasseur himself kept it brief: “I’m here to win with Ferrari, and this gives us the stability to do it.” With the season halfway done and McLaren dominating, this deal could be the spark Ferrari needs to rally – or a bold bet on long-term revival.
