Rosberg Drags Hamilton into Norris Error Critique

Nico Rosberg has raised doubts about Lando Norris’s ability to clinch the 2025 Formula 1 title, pointing to mistakes during the Belgian Grand Prix that he believes Lewis Hamilton would never make.

Speaking on Sky Sports F1 after the race at Spa-Francorchamps, the 2016 world champion drew on his time racing alongside Hamilton at Mercedes. Rosberg highlighted Norris’s struggles in the final stint, where the McLaren driver locked up multiple times while trying to close on teammate Oscar Piastri.

“He had fresher tyres and a clear shot at catching Oscar, but those errors kept him back,” Rosberg said. “Lewis in full attack mode – what we called ‘hammer time’ – just doesn’t slip like that. It’s all about precision under pressure.”

Norris started from pole but finished third behind Piastri and race winner Charles Leclerc of Ferrari. The Brit admitted post-race that small slip-ups cost him dearly, leaving him 76 points behind championship leader Max Verstappen with 10 rounds left.

Rosberg, who edged out Hamilton for the title nine years ago, questioned if Norris has the edge needed for a sustained fight. “To win a championship, you can’t afford these moments,” he added. “Lando’s quick, no doubt, but consistency separates the greats.”

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella defended Norris, noting the car’s pace but stressing the fine margins at Spa’s demanding layout. As the season heads to Zandvoort next, Norris will aim to bounce back and narrow the gap.
