The lines between different disciplines often blur in elite motorsport. And Davide Brivio, who has struggled with his move from the two to four-wheeled paddock, finds himself at a potential crossroads. After a notable tenure in MotoGP, culminating in an ultra successful team boss role at Suzuki, Brivio made a surprising switch to Formula 1 in 2021, joining Alpine as their racing director. However, his journey in F1, where he currently serves in the less prominent position as director of racing expansion projects, might be taking a new and terminal turn.
France’s Auto Hebdo reports that Brivio is being courted by Honda to replace their struggling MotoGP team boss, Alberto Puig. This development comes as Brivio has faced challenges in adjusting to the F1 environment, a stark contrast to his successful stint in the two-wheeled racing world.
When confronted with these rumors in Abu Dhabi, Alpine’s F1 boss Bruno Famin offered a tight-lipped response: “You know the answer in this case – we do not comment on rumours. I cannot say anything about that.” On the other side, Honda’s current MotoGP team boss, Alberto Puig, told Speedweek about his ongoing contract, which is valid through 2024.
Brivio himself, when asked about the possibility of a job offer, expressed openness to opportunities, albeit with a cautious approach. “Would I consider a job offer? This question is difficult to answer because I would need to know who is asking and what a possible offer consists of,” he said.
