Madrid is setting its sights on hosting Formula 1’s next night race, marking a potential milestone as the first of its kind in Europe. Marca’s Marco Canseco reported that a group from Madrid’s confirmed new F1 event for 2026 visited the Saudi Arabian GP recently to gather insights on hosting a night race.
Canseco highlighted the importance of their visit, noting, “It (Jeddah) is the ideal place to know what is needed to organise a similar event.”
The organizers behind the Madrid Grand Prix have ambitiously stated their goal to offer “the best F1 experience in the world.” Further distinguishing the Madrid race, Canseco added, “And it wouldn’t just be because of an unprecedented circuit, but because it is the first urban one in a major European capital, with the added bonus of perhaps becoming the first night race on the old continent.”
Currently, Formula 1’s night races are held in locations such as Singapore, Bahrain, Qatar, and Las Vegas, making Madrid’s addition a unique and historic move within Europe.
Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, a native of Madrid, expressed his enthusiasm and willingness to contribute to the race’s development, recently stating, “I will offer my help for whatever they need, whether it’s track design or anything else.”
