Nikita Mazepin alleges that European nations are overlooking a court decision that permits him to continue his international racing journey.
At the beginning of the Ukraine-Russia conflict in 2022, Haas dismissed both Mazepin and his sponsor, Uralkali. Following that, western penalties went a step further, banning him from Europe and some other countries.
Despite a ruling from the European Court of Justice overturning these sanctions, including travel bans, the 24-year-old racer still finds himself barred from European soil.
Speaking to Tass news agency, Mazepin said, “We got the interim measures in place, but then the sanctions were renewed and the interim measures stopped working.”
He added, “Now we have managed to return these interim measures to the new sanctions package. The real challenge is that not all European Union nations are honoring these interim measures.”
Mazepin, the ex-Formula 1 driver, pointed out that he has only been granted entry into Italy. “However, I wish to have access to all EU nations so that I can race once more.”
