MotoGP boss confirms F1 takeover talks

Whispers have intensified over the potential acquisition of MotoGP by none other than the powerhouse behind Formula 1, Liberty Media. Could the premier two-wheeled spectacle soon fall under F1’s mighty umbrella?

Carmelo Ezpeleta, the seasoned helm of MotoGP, broke his silence on the mounting rumors. Speaking to Television Espanola, Ezpeleta, 78, couldn’t evade the question but greeted it with a knowing smile. “Those are rumors, and that’s what they say,” he acknowledged, teasingly leaving the door open to the possibility.

However, Ezpeleta didn’t shy away from the reality that MotoGP’s fate might indeed be up for grabs. “The majority shareholders of Dorna are investment funds, which buy things to sell them,” he revealed candidly. “We have always been for sale, from day one.”

With Dorna Sports’ current owner, Bridgepoint, reportedly engaging in discussions over a multi billion-dollar deal, Ezpeleta hinted at the inevitability of change. “We have been with Bridgepoint since 2006 and CPP (Canada Pension Plan Investment Board) since 2013. There are always approaches, and for now, that’s it,” he admitted.

Yet, amidst the swirling speculation, Ezpeleta remained steadfast, affirming, “We’re the same as we always were.”
