Gunther Steiner, the former Haas Formula 1 team boss, has made it clear he’s in no hurry to dive back into the high-pressure world of F1 team management. Following his departure from Haas, where disagreements over the team’s direction led to his exit, Steiner shared his feelings on the matter. “It was a relief,” he admitted to Bild. “An ending like that often leads to taking a step forward and allowing for new perspectives. My perspective on Formula 1 has now changed because I don’t just look at one team,” Steiner elaborated.
Despite his increased popularity and recognition, partly thanks to the Netflix series Drive To Survive, Steiner finds himself at a career crossroads, with job offers still coming in. He’s ventured into television punditry, taking up roles with RTL in Germany and Canal Plus in France, indicating a shift in focus away from team management.
“I get a lot of calls, especially from the media,” Steiner shared. “I make sure that I don’t say yes or no straight away. I would now like to take some time to think about what I actually want to do.”
Steiner’s current phase could be likened to a sabbatical, a period for slowing down after a decade of relentless pace in the competitive world of Formula 1. “The last ten years have been crazy. My biggest focus right now is my family,” he revealed, underscoring a shift towards personal priorities.
When it comes to considering roles outside of Formula 1, Steiner remains firm in his decision. “No,” he insisted, emphasizing his expertise and familiarity with F1 as opposed to starting anew in a different motorsport category. “I know Formula 1 best, otherwise I would have to start over again. But at the moment I’m not thinking about it,” Steiner concluded, leaving the door open for future possibilities within the sport he knows best, albeit with no immediate plans to return to team management.
